It is said that by 2010 the U.S. will be short 200,000 welders. We’re losing the welders who have been at it for 25 or 30 years and young workers have become uninterested in the manual trades, and are drawn to white collar and high-tech jobs. Even the high schools are taking out shop classes and gear students to go to college; they’ve lost sight of the other jobs that are out there. A highly skilled welder can make a lot of money, particularly if he or she is willing to travel.

Welding is not just about building cool bikes, cars, skyscrapers, bridges, and airplanes, it’s also a huge part of electronics, medical equipment nanotechnology, and spaceships...the career opportunities are endless!

There’s not enough skilled people, and they have to come from somewhere. That is why AWS has chosen the three spokespersons to represent the industry as a whole and express to our youth (and women) how rewarding welding can be creatively, functionally and financially.

If you're interested, you can find out about training and job opportunities at www.aws.org/w/a/

The content of Hot Rod's Bike Works and Hot Bike were getting painfully close, so we decided that the printed pages would be better used for our Bagger book and off we went. Now that we have come full-circle with the printed magazine, it is time to concentrate on getting everything on the Hot Rod's Bike Works site switched over to support our newest print magazine. Don't worry, all of the Hot Rod's Bike Works articles have been on this site will remain here and searchable. So all of the tech and features that you have gotten used to having at your fingertips will never go away. But the only new content you'll find on here is from our title, Hot Bike Baggers and will include a couple of new categories. First is Touring. You will be able to find all of our road trip stories under a single tab on the main page that will be labeled "Touring" simple as that. Second, we are adding a tab so you will be able to see all of the monthly Buyers Guides in one place and that will all be listed under the "Buyers Guide" tab. Keep an eye on our site, because we're growing again. Courtney Halowell
