South Carolina shows off some serious hositality.
Do the folks in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, know how to show visitors a good time? They sure as hell do. The beachside resort community is a Mecca for vacationing families, golfers, and during the second and third week of May, bikers -- lots of them.
It's hard to believe that the Myrtle Beach Rally has been around for 65 years now, making it one of the oldest rallies anywhere in the country. The South Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealer Association sponsored this year's event, as it has in the past. Needless to say, the local dealers were jam-packed as they took care of customers looking for everything from T-shirts to engine parts.
Making the ride from wherever you happened to be to this beautiful destination was well worth the trip. While we were there we bumped into people who made the journey from all corners of the continent. The common thoughts we heard from so many folks attending the rally were, We're just here to have a good time, go on some great rides, and hang out with old friends while making a few new ones.
From our observations, that's exactly what was taking place. There was plenty of great riding to be had all over the area, not to mention a lot of people taking in the sunshine at places like Boardwalk at the Beach and Barefoot Landing, where hundreds and hundreds of vendors set up shop, offering a wide variety of anything even remotely related to motorcycles.
If you are one of those people who can never get too much of a good thing, we strongly suggest you check out the Southern hospitality for yourself and head off to Myrtle Beach for the upcoming fall rally from September 29 to October 3, 2004.
